Spring/Summer/Fall
Spring Scoria Cleanup
Depending upon winter snowfall totals, spring scoria cleanup is normally scheduled during the month of April. Streets crews sweep up scoria that residents have raked out onto the asphalt shoulders of the roadways. All commercial contractors and property management companies who provide scoria removal services must remove the materials themselves for disposal.
All foliage and branches that have been trimmed, trees that have been cut down, and other debris, must be hauled away by the resident or contractor.
During the month of April, you can reach the Public Works Shop at 970-879-1807 to schedule additional scoria pickups or if you have questions about the program.
Landscaping in City’s Right-of-Way (ROW)
Attention Homeowners and Landscape Contractors
Streets would like to remind all homeowners to avoid placing large landscaping materials such as berms, trees, and boulders within 10-15 feet of the street driving surface and/or within 15’ of a fire hydrant. This right-of-way area, which is typically 30 feet from the center-line of the street, is used for snow storage and utility line installation. Landscaping materials placed in the right-of-way can damage street maintenance equipment and may be removed due to utility work in the area. The city will not be responsible for damage to landscaping materials, irrigation systems, etc. that are placed within any public right-of-way.
Easement Restrictions
The public easement dedications preclude the construction of fences or other improvements or placement of landscaping or other materials within the easement areas that could impair the use of the easement as provided for in such dedication.
Pavement Maintenance Program
The city allocates between $1.5 to $2M a year to maintain the streets across the community. Typically in early May, the annual paving and striping program kicks off and runs through early July. During this process, streets are re-paved or receive a surface treatment.
IMS Pavement Management Analysis Report
A pavement analysis was conducted in 2021 of all city streets. The final IMS Pavement Management Analysis Report is available upon request.
Noxious Weed Spraying
The City of Steamboat Springs hires a private contractor to spray for noxious weeds in the city’s right-of-way, work is typically scheduled in May/June, weather permitting.
If you have any questions, please contact the Streets Division at 970-879-1807. Additional information is available on the city's Noxious Weed webpage.
