STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 20, 2023-The city is accepting applications for a new July 4th evening event to take the place of fireworks, which are no longer viable due to dry summer conditions and wildfire threats.
City Council is interested in supporting a new July 4th evening event that will close out the day’s events and provide a culmination for the community to the holiday. A drone show or live music concert are just some of the activities that have been tossed around as options.
Event producers wishing to submit a special event application for putting on the new July 4th event, will need to fill out the special event application and provide all supporting documentation for consideration.
The application can be found online and must be filled out completely. The deadline to apply to be selected as a new evening event on the 4th of July is Friday, January 12, 2024.
As part of the process, a selection committee will be formed comprised of community members and two city councilors. Community members wishing to serve on the committee must fill out an online application by Monday, January 15, 2024. Applicants will be interviewed, and finalists selected by City Council to serve in this temporary role for the community.
All applications for the new July 4th event will be vetted through the city’s current special event process ensuring that they meet required criteria and requirements. Eligible events will then go before the selection committee for a final decision on the new event for the Fourth of July.
The Fourth of July is a Thursday in 2024 and traditional events like the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast, Nordic Combine Roller Ski Race, July 4th Parade, Jumpin & Jammin Ski Jump Competition, and the Steamboat Springs ProRodeo Series are currently scheduled to take place.
