Steamboat Springs, Colorado-February 9, 2026- The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) recently honored several outstanding individuals during its annual appreciation function, recognizing exceptional leadership, professionalism, and service to the community.
“We’re fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated individuals in the department for consideration of these honors,” said Police Chief Mark Beckett. “Mikey, Lisa, Jennifer, Wyn, and Cassandra rose to the top of a very competitive field and stood out for their leadership roles within the department and the community. Their commitment ensures that our residents can feel safe and supported every day.”
Leader of the Year – Acting Sergeant Mikey Buccino
Honored with the Jeff Wilson Leader of the Year Award, Acting Sergeant Buccino exemplifies leadership through hard work, mentorship, and dedication. Rising from an intern to his current role, Mikey has consistently gone above and beyond, volunteering for extra shifts, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to strategic planning initiatives. His commitment to the department and community sets a high standard for leadership.
Officer of the Year – Detective/SRO Lisa Eifling
As School Resource Officer, Detective Eifling has embraced her role as a juvenile expert, leading felony juvenile cases and building strong relationships with students, parents, and school staff. Her work ethic, professionalism, and compassion have made her a trusted mentor and advocate for youth in Steamboat Springs.
Professional Staff of the Year – Community Service Officer Jennifer Good
Officer Jennifer Good consistently demonstrates outstanding professionalism, integrity, and compassion. She handles every call thoroughly and with care, while treating community members with kindness and respect. Her dedication and work ethic set a high standard and reflect the very best of our professional staff.
Professional Staff of the Year – Administrative Assistant Wyn Scherar
Wyn Scherar’s organization and follow-through have made a major impact on the department, especially during staffing shortages. She ensures officers receive needed equipment quickly, supporting both safety and morale. Wyn also manages training registrations, reservations, and documentation with efficiency and budget awareness, helping meet POST requirements and maintain accurate training records. Always willing to step in, she goes above and beyond—also supporting Evidence and training as a back-up Evidence Tech.
Citizen Award – Cassandra Baca
Program Director at Brighter World Child Advocacy Center, Cassandra Baca, was honored for her leadership in coordinating multi-agency efforts in child forensic cases. Her work ensures effective communication and collaboration, significantly impacting outcomes for vulnerable children.
“These awards set a high standard for excellence and inspire all of us to strive to be our best every day—for each other, for the department, and for our city,” added Beckett. “When our team performs at this level, it means safer streets, stronger relationships, and a community that knows we’re here to protect and serve.”
