2023 Routt County CWPP Final 9-28-23_small-1 Opens in new windowCommunity Wildfire Protection Plan

The purpose of the Routt County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is to minimize the threat of wildfire to human life and well-being and reduce the wildfire risk to community values.

Members of the Routt County community, in cooperation with local, county, state, and federal agencies and other interested parties, have collaboratively developed the Routt County CWPP. The CWPP was developed according to the Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HFRA) of 2003 and the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) Minimum Standards for Developing Community Wildfire Protection Plans (2022).

Emerald Mountain Fire Mitigation Project

SSFR is implementing a four-year effort to mitigate critical infrastructure and improve wildland fire prevention on Emerald Mountain starting this summer. With grant funding provided by Colorado State Forest Service, chipping equipment has been secured by SSFR to help with fuels reduction throughout the Steamboat Springs Area Fire District.

A Type-3 Wildland Urban Interface Fire Engine, chipper box truck, and chipper have been added to the department’s arsenal of wildland fire equipment. SSFR seasonal wildland firefighters conduct home assessments, implement mitigation efforts, educate the public and respond/deploy to wildfires.
