The Sign Code is Article 5 of the Community Development Code. Both are frequently updated and can be found on the Community Development Code page, along with recent amendments that have not yet been incorporated into the code.

Portable Signs or Sandwich Board Signs

Portable signs require a Permanent Sign Permit application submitted through City View. If the sign is located in a public-right-of-way or on a sidewalk, then an application for a Type B Revocable License is required.

Temporary Signs

Small Yard Signs, Large Yard Signs, Banner

  • Yard Signs and Banners can be used to advertise short term events, like sales, grand opening, specials, or “coming soon”.
  • Temporary signs can only be posted for a limited time and need to be located on private property, not in roads or right-of-ways, or off-premises at a location where the event is not happening.
  • Small yard signs can include election or real estate signs. These signs do not typically require a permit, but they should be posted for a limited time and they can only be located on private property, not in streets or public areas.

Did you know?

  • Open signs are not allowed to blink or flash
  • All new signs require a permit, even window signs, projecting signs, banner signs, and large construction or real estate signs.
  • You can get more square footage or height through incentives, see CDC Sign Code Sections 502.D and 511.
